Alfred Carl Hopf, 77, of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Sylvan Crossings Assisted Living facility in Jefferson after a brief illness.
Alfred was born on June 23, 1941 in Watertown, the son of Herman and Emma (Hessenauer) Hopf. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Helenville.
Alfred farmed with his parents for many years on their farm in the Town of Farmington until moving to Jefferson in 1990. He later worked at Opportunities, Inc. in Fort Atkinson for several years until retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
Alfred enjoyed watching baseball games and attending local events and festivals, especially the Jefferson County Fair. He enjoyed talking with friends about local news and had an excellent memory for the birthdates of his friends. Alfred was proud of his German heritage as both of his parents had been born in Germany and had immigrated to the United States prior to the start of World War II.
He is survived by cousins in Germany and many friends in the Jefferson County area. He will be especially missed by his close friends, the members of the Alwin and Rosaleen (Sachs) Baneck family. The Hopf and Sachs families had a strong connection dating back to their origins in Germany. These bonds of friendship continued up to the present day as the Baneck family cared for Alfred.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother who died at birth. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8th at 12:00PM at St John’s Lutheran Church of Jefferson with the Rev. Matthew Krenke officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00AM. until the time of the service. A private burial will be held at a later time in the Christberg Cemetery of Jefferson.
Alfred’s friends would like to give a special thank you to the caring and dedicated staff of Sylvan Crossings, Visiting Angels, and Rainbow Hospice for their exceptional care of Alfred.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St John’s Lutheran Church.
