Hugh J. “Mack” McLennan, 71 of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Mercy Hospital of Janesville.
Mack was born on August 25, 1951 in Los Angeles, CA the son of Roderick and Patricia McLennan. The family lived in Southern California, where his father was a Micropaleontologist at USC and with Union Oil, and Mack grew up and attended high school in the area. He enlisted in the US Navy following one year of college and while in Vietnam, he became aware of the Navy Seals. Soon after, he had a desire to be a part of that elite unit, a dream he achieved. He served with the Seals for approximately 15 years, during the middle east conflict era. During his time of service, Mack’s helicopter was shot down twice, and he even sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, an injury he never reported. While in the Navy, Mack finished his college studies and earned a degree in business from Texas A&M University. In total, Mack served his country for 25 years. He had a deep interest in NHRA Drag Racing, events he enjoyed attending in person with his loved ones, especially his Fiancé Carol Houlihan. Military history was important to Mack, and he had a vast knowledge of the topic. He was interested in weapons of all sorts and enjoyed collecting military memorabilia. He kept informed politically and had his stance on issues. Mack was a strong, confident, and alpha male. He was extremely protective of his family and extended family. He was a true patriot and lived by the Navy Seals Motto: “The only easy day was yesterday”. Mack McLennan will be dearly missed.
He is survived by: his fiancé Carol Houlihan of Janesville; daughter Rachel; brother Doug McLennan; his grandchildren; Carol’s children Erin Houlihan and Matt Houlihan both of Montgomery, TX; late wife Phyllis' children Joey and Clayton Sorge; and a number of other family members, many friends, and fellow veterans.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Samantha, sister Pam, his late wife Phyllis, and his favorite uncle and namesake Hugh E. McLennan.
